Email RSS Subscription through Feedburner PDF Print E-mail
Written by William Villanueva
Thursday, 13 March 2008
While reading another blog, I noticed that the site has a subscription which allows visitors to the site to be automatically noticed whenever the site is updated. This is opposed to using an RSS feed. If you have a Multiply account, then you'll know what this looks like.

So I've checked around for an email subscription module and found one for Joomla made by VivocitiBlogosphere

After installing the module, I found that I have to setup the feed server through FeedBurner which checks for updates on your blogs or site and they in turn sends an email to your subscribers.

Incidentally, FeedBurner has been acquired by Google so they have now integrated FeedBurner with Google's Adsense.

Chinese Characters and the Bible PDF Print E-mail
Written by William Villanueva
Wednesday, 12 March 2008

A few years ago, a pastor from St. Stephen's held a seminar in Greenhills Christian Fellowship regarding Chinese characters and how some of them came to be.  He gave examples of words and how the events in the Bible shaped those words.  I can't remember the name of the pastor or the name of a book on this.

But here is a site to visit which is basically the same though the flash video are composed of a different set to characters from the ones of the lecture.

Selecting the better free online photo album (1) PDF Print E-mail
Written by William Villanueva
Sunday, 09 March 2008

There are a number of online photo albums avaiable.  I liked Yahoo Photos but they had to shut it down and concentrated on Flickr.  The reason I liked Yahoo Photos was the way one can control who can view the pictures.

When they shutdown Yahoo Photos, I migrated to Multiply which  had a theoretical unlimited space.  But with the new changes with the way the photos are now handled, I'm checking out the alternatives.

From my initial surveys, Photobucket gives away 1gb of storage space while Flickr is unlimited but subject to a maximum of 100mb per month.  My only problem with this is that I have to resize all my pictures before uploading them.

Picasa is supposed to give 1gb of initial space and supposed to be like Gmail which grows, but I have yet to try it.  When I logged in, I see that I am using 0mb of 1gb.  Its not like Gmail where even if its a new account, your mailbox size is already 6gb and counting.  Maybe I just didn't see it.

Anyway, I'll have to try and experiment with specially those with regards to group and/or private photos. I'll post updates when I've got my answers.

Multiply photo links stopped working PDF Print E-mail
Written by William Villanueva
Sunday, 09 March 2008

Seems like Multiply has made changes to how its pictures are stored.  I have linked a few of the KYL  group pictures to the Philippine Kho Association website but when checking it today, I don't see the pictures anymore.  When I tried to check the site, one of the pictures from one album has disappeared while another is showing just a square frame.  Looking closere, I saw that its being linked to a "dot_clear.gif" file.  So far, I haven't been able to google any information regarding this.  But checking the other pictures, apparently Multiply has changed all the links to the pictures from pointing to the images itself to hiding it.

It used to be you can get a link to the picture using something similar to this:

http://images.villanuevafamily.multiply.com/image/5:khoyouth/photos/7/1200x120/8/IMG_0702.JPG?et=meJFEXvs1jX%2CNtaJsvubAw&nmid=83392884

Now, when one tries to get the location of the picture, you'll only end up with: http://images.multiply.com//common/dot_clear.gif

Does anyone know if there is a permalink to the pictures that I can use or maybe I'll have to find an alternative for my photo album.  Should I change to Yahoo's Flickr,  Photobucket or Google's Picasa?
